Supporting Seniors
I have prioritized common sense policies for seniors to ensure they have access to services, property tax relief, and the ballot.
Seniors are treasured members of House District 90 who have contributed to our community’s development for years. We need to ensure they are supported, honored, and able to remain in their homes, even as property values skyrocket.
I co-sponsored SB 439, which exempts Atlanta residents aged 65+ with income under $100,000 from school property taxes, and HB 987, that would provide state funds to supplement lost revenue if school districts lower millage rates, potentially reducing property taxes for seniors.
I co-sponsored the Support Georgia Family Caregivers Act, HB 1057, which would provide tax relief to individuals who provide caregiving support to their senior family members.
I have advocated for increased funding for home- and community-based service providers, benefiting seniors who require assistance to live independently.
I began the multi-year process of introducing legislation that would increase pension benefits for retired teachers by adjusting the annual pension benefit formula.
Seniors shouldn’t have to provide an excuse to vote absentee. I’ve fought against Republican proposals to create more red tape making it harder to vote with an absentee ballot.
